During Lorie’s working life as an Registered Nurse, she believed there had to be a better solution for patients’ symptoms than giving medication and she became aware that the most successful treatment in healthcare was the promotion of health and prevention of disease.
Lorie found herself in Ontario caring for her elderly parents when an opportunity presented to embark on whole food nutrition education. Through this experience, her knowledge of whole food, plant-based nutrition as a way to prevent disease and treat illness came together.
When Lorie returned to Yellowknife and began her nutrition practice, she taught her clients how to eat a healthy, plant-based diet. However, not all of her clients had the skill, time or energy to prepare a nutritious diet for themselves. So, she embarked on further education to refine her culinary skills.
In 2013, Yellowknife Farmer’s Market invited Lorie & Kevin to offer plant-based foods & beverages to market patrons. Zing! found an eager, excited reception from Yellowknifers who were looking to improve their nutrition. Our market patrons frequently ask where they could access our food year-round.
So, a permanent kitchen for Zing! finally arrived.
